The interior floors and roof of Smith College ’ s main library were removed as part of a $ 120 mil renovation, leaving the original load – bearing brick masonry walls as a free – standing shell. During this work , it was discovered that there were sizeable voids within the 16” thick brick walls that significantly compromised their strength.
VoidSpan was brought on board to supply and manage the consolidation and in – place strengthening of approximately 12,000 squa re feet of wall with 52,000 lbs. of injected PHLc70 grout and more than 500 VoidSpan Port Anchors.
