Injection Grout

The exterior courtyard and rear walls of the venerable Hawthorne Hotel had a problem. Being constructed of one wythe of brick bonded to the face of vertically oriented hollow clay tile, the walls had insufficient horizontal tension capacity to resist cracking under normal seasonal temperature cycles and were crossed by frequent vertical cracks running up and down the facades.

Helical reinforcing was set into the bed joints at 24” spacing throughout the cracked facades and VoidSpan PHLc70 injection grout was used to fill the cracks in brick units that had telegraphed into the clay tile back-up. No cracks have appeared since the work was done.
